Extreme Gets Second Chance Against Omaha
April 15, 2008 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Bloomington Extreme News Release
The Bloomington Extreme indoor football team gets a second chance at defeating the Omaha Beef when the teams meet Saturday at 7:05 pm at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The teams first squared off in the second week of the United Indoor Football season, with the Extreme (3-3) suffering a 52-45 road defeat to Omaha (4-2).
Both teams are playing their best football of the season. Bloomington is coming off a big road win against Eastern Conference leading RiverCity Rage and has won its last two contests.
Omaha has experienced similar successes, handling its last three opponents and gaining ground on Billings (4-1). Both Bloomington and Omaha sit a half game out of first place in their respective conferences.
The Extreme enters play as the second best offense in UIF. Led by quarterback Dusty Burk and wide receivers James Walton and Derin Graham, the Extreme has posted the most points in the league (249) and averages the second most points per game (41.5).
Bloomington's offense suffered a scare in RiverCity when Burk was forced to leave the game with an injury to his throwing hand. Extreme Head Coach Kenton Carr does not think the injury will hamper Burk's performance against Omaha expects him to be ready for Saturday's game.
Burk scorched RiverCity's top ranked defense for 121 yards and four touchdowns before the injury. He leads the league in passing yards (1120) and ranks second in touchdowns (18) and passing yards per game (186.7).
Walton enters play as the top wide receiver in UIF. His 36 receptions, 493 yards and 10 touchdowns are the league's best.
He is complimented by Graham, who ranks second in receptions (34) and yards (410). Graham is coming off a six catch, 72 yard, two touchdown performance.
The key to Omaha's success this year has been its ability to run the football, defend the run and force turnovers. The Beef rank at the top in the league in those categories.
Omaha enters play with a UIF-best 508 rushing yards - 158 more yards than any other team. They also have amassed the most rushing touchdowns (14) in the league.
