Express tryout draws ABA All-Star

August 11, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release

Newark, NJ. The ABA Newark Express open tryout held at the Parsippany PAL was a rousing success. Coach Ron Moore's recruiting efforts after taking over the helm of the Express, showed great returns. In attendance was one of the tri-states former ABA All Stars and several talented local players from New York and New Jersey.

Obadiah Toppin, a savvy veteran who was a 2005 ABA All Star, showed his unique ability to take over and lead, even in a tryout. Toppin, formerly played for the Harlem Strong Dogs and has found a new team to call home.

Francis Sekani, standing 6'10 and Jonathan Oliver, standing 7', are two players that we hope to see BIG things from in training camp. Brandon Weldon, a sharp shooter and Terrance Watkins, probably as versatile a player as we've seen, round out the camp invitees coming directly this tryout.

What the Owners have also decided to do is to invite Christopher Jean, Justin Carter, Telron Spell and Keimon Thompson back for another workout. They showed something in their play that we'd like to see again. Sometimes things happen during such an intense workout that players aren't able to show their complete abilities.

Coach Moore stated, "We've got something to prove with this team. We're looking for players who will compliment this organization and what we stand for...basketball will take care of itself."
