Express tryout a local success
June 15, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release
Newark, NJ. The ABA Newark Express held its first official tryout for the 2006-2007 season on Saturday, June 10th. Newark represented itself nicely. The intensity could be felt from the time these 25 young men registered to the time the coaches gave them their orientation speech.
Clearly stated by Coach Lowes Moore, "We're looking to develop a team, not individual players." That statement said it all. Coach Ron Moore echoed that sentiment and made it clear that if you intend on being a part of this team, you'd better come correct. Before these young men touched the famed red, white and blue official ABA ball, Stoney Oates (personal trainer) put them through a series of stretching and warm-up exercises. They understood immediately that they were going to be tested in every way.
Co-owner Jacqui Halyard was extremely pleased with what she saw, stating, "We've found some of the talent that Newark has to offer, and we'll keep looking." We'll be announcing the second tryout in the coming weeks. What we'll have over the course of the summer is an exhibition team to see these guys in game situations before coming to camp.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
