North Iowa Outlaws News Release
(Mason City, IA) Round three of the "Border Battle" between the North Iowa Outlaws Southern Minnesota turned out to be a laugher for the Express and a night of disappointment for Mason City's Most Wanted. Southern Minnesota bolted to a 6-0 lead, and cruised to a 9-2 win over the Outlaws, at North Iowa Ice Arena.
Ryan Guentzel led the offensive barrage for the Express, with two goals and two assists. His power play goal opened up the scoring in the opening period. Mike Montgomery, Kevin Wright, and Sean Murphy all found the back of the net in the middle period, to knock out Outlaws' starting goalie Erik Largen (Fairbanks, AK). The Express showed no mercy on North Iowa's other goalie, Scott Darling (Lemont, IL), peppering him with 20 shots and scoring five goals. Guentzel's second goal of the night put the Express up 5-0 entering the final period. Jamie Ruff and Joel Gaulrapp tallied third period goals for Southern Minnesota, sandwiched around a pair of Jason Wiley scores. Outlaws' Captain, Brad Krueger, proved to be one bright spot on the night for the locals, scoring twice on the power play. His first goal was set up by Mike Bernardy (Sandy, UT) and Cody Mosbeck (Emo, Ontario, Canada). The second Krueger score was assisted by Max Mobley (Glendale, AZ) and Alex McRae (Mindora, WI).
After Friday night's action, Southern Minnesota stands all alone in second place in the NAHL Central Division, two points behind Fargo-Moorhead. The Outlaws remain in fourth place, two points ahead of the Bismarck Bobcats.
The Outlaws and the Express go at it again this coming evening (Saturday, November 26th) at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna, MN. Game time will be 7:05. Play-by-play coverage of the game will be available on Eagle Country, KY102.7FM in the North Iowa and Southern Minnesota region, with audio available as well, on the Outlaws web site, www.northiowaoutlaws.com.
