Owatonna Express News Release
MASON CITY, IA - Ryan Guentzel scored two goals and added two assists Friday night to lead the Southern Minnesota Express to a 9-2 drubbing of the North Iowa Outlaws in Mason City. After a tightly contested first period that resulted in a 1-0 Southern Minnesota lead, the Express found a higher gear and ran away with it, scoring four times in the middle frame.
By the third period, all the Outlaws could muster were two meaningless goals and a pile of penalties. When all the damage was tallied, Jason Wiley recorded two goals and an assist for the winners, who had single goals from Joel Gaulrapp, Mike Montgomery, Sean Murphy, Kevin Wright, and Jamie Ruff. Nick Hopper made 27 saves for the victory.
Brad Krueger scored both goals for North Iowa, who looked rusty after a 12-day layoff. Guentzel's four-point performance gives him 9 goals and 27 points on the season. The Express have now passed the U.S. National Development Team as the highest-scoring team in the league, averaging 4.25 goals per game.
