Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers faced the Kansas City T-Bones Monday night, with Sioux City winning 7-4.
The X's scored first putting two runs on the board in the second. Brock Kjeldgaard started off the inning with a walk, Noah Perio Jr then doubled to advance the runner all the way to third. With one out and men at second and third, X's second baseman Ryan Court grounded into a 6-3 putout that scored Kjeldgaard from third and gave the X's a 1-0 lead. Catcher Matt Koch hit a two out RBI double later in the inning to extend it for the Explorers.
In the 4th, the X's kept the bats rolling scoring three more runs off of an RBI double by Matt Koch, an unconventional RBI bunt single by Dillon Usiak, and a error by the T-Bones shortstop that score Koch from third.
The three and four men in the Explorers lineup plated the last two runs of the game for Sioux City. Rene Tosoni started off the fifth inning with a single, and then clean-up man Brock Kjeldgaard hit a two-run homer to give the X's a 7-0 lead.
Kansas City managed to score four runs in the ball game. They scored their first run in the sixth inning off an error that scored Ryan Cavan from third. In the eighth inning, Kansas City plated three runs on an RBI single by Jake Blackwood and then a two-run triple by Adam Bailey. The T-Bones had a good night at the plate finishing with four runs and eight hits, but just couldn't bounce back from their pitching woes during the early innings.
Final score on the night, Sioux City Explorers 7, Kansas City T-Bones 4. Winning pitcher was X's starter Patrick Johnson (2-0). The right-hander went 7.1 innings, allowing four runs, on seven hits, while striking out two. Jimmer Kennedy pitched in the final innings for Sioux City, closing out the ball-game unharmed.
T-Bones righty Fernando Hernandez was charged with the loss giving up threes on three hits. Jared Messer and Josh Tols pitched in relief for Kansas City. Messer allowed four runs, on six hits in 1.2 innings pitched. Tols went three innings without giving up a run.
The Explorers had three hot hitters at the plate. Brock Kjeldgaard smashed his second home run of the year tonight, Noah Perio Jr had another two-hit game, and catcher Matt Koch had a three hit, two RBI night.
