Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades, in cooperation with the ECHL, have announced their 2009-10 regular season schedule. The Blades will play a total of 51 games against South Division opponents and the remaining 21 will be against American Conference foes from the North Division. In total the Everblades will play a 72-game schedule with 36 games at home and on the road.
For the first time in six seasons, Florida will open up on the road in the brand new state-of-the-art Lucas County Arena in Toledo, Ohio against the Toledo Walleye (formerly Toledo Storm) on October 16 - 18. The Everblades then return home for a five-game homestand against the Charlotte Checkers on October 23 and 24 and Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays on October 28, 30 and 31.
The 2009-10 season is highlighted by many firsts to Germain Arena. Next season marks the first-ever visits from three North Division opponents; the Kalamazoo Wings, the Toledo Walleye and the Wheeling Nailers. The newest member of the ECHL, Kalamazoo will be visiting Southwest Florida for three games on Wednesday, February 17, Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20. Toledo, after a one-year hiatus, returns to the ECHL as the Walleye. They will swim into Germain Arena in November on Wednesday (11th), Friday (13th) and Saturday (14th). Finally, the Wheeling Nailers will be the final opponent for the Blades before the Christmas holiday. The Nailers and Everblades will play a trifecta of games on Wednesday, December 16, Friday, December 18 and Saturday, December 19.
The Reading Royals and Trenton Titans, formerly of the North Division, will visit Germain Arena for the first-time in history in the regular season. The Royals and Everblades tangled in Germain Arena in 2004 in the American Conference Finals. Florida prevailed in that series three games to two in the best-of-five series. The Royals will roar into town on Wednesday, November 18, Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21.
Trenton and Florida last played in Florida in the Kelly Cup Finals in 2005. It was the second straight appearance for the Everblades in the Kelly Cup Finals. Trenton won the championship series over Florida four games to two. The Titans first visit to Southwest Florida will come in 2010 as the two clubs will meet on Wednesday, January 27, Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30.
Florida enjoys their longest homestand late in the season. From February 17 through March 6, the Everblades will be at home for their longest stretch, eight games. The 2008-09 Brahbam Cup Champs will enjoy two five-game homestands in October (23-31) and January (22-30) and also enjoy a six-game homestand in December (9-19).
The Everblades longest road trip spans 21 days as the 2008-09 regular season champs embark on an 11-game road trip that includes stops in all South Division rival cities. Florida will travel to Charlotte (1), Gwinnett (3), South Carolina (1), Reading (2), Elmira (2), and Trenton (2). The Everblades second longest trip away from Southwest Florida is seven games taking place a month earlier. Florida will swing through the North beginning November 25 as they battle Wheeling (1), Toledo (1), Kalamazoo (2), Toledo (1), and finish up in Cincinnati (2) on December 5.
