Evansville BlueCats News Release

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats (5-9) return home this Saturday night when they will welcome the Bloomington Extreme (7-7) to Roberts Stadium. Earlier this season, Evansville came out on top winning a 58-46 contest over the Extreme on the road at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Bloomington currently sits in a tie for 3rd place in the UIF Eastern Conference. Kickoff for this Saturday night is scheduled for 7:05pm with the gates at Roberts Stadium set to open at 6pm. Halftime will feature a National Dodgeball League Tour Stop with a match featuring two professional dodgeball teams.

Last week, Evansville suffered a 41-38 loss to the River City Rage when Rage kicker Derek Kutz won the game on a field goal as time expired. Bloomington is coming off a 49-31 home victory over the Billings Outlaws, which broke the Outlaws 8 game winning streak.

In the previous meeting this season between the BlueCats and Extreme, Evansville was led by running back Ray Kirkley who scored 4 touchdowns in the game. He ran for 53 yards and 3 touchdowns and caught one pass for 31 yards and a touchdown. Odest Shannon had 233 all-purpose yards against the Extreme, including 5 receptions for 83 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quarterback Brent Dearmon was 17-23 for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns as Evansville managed to put 58 points on the board, their highest point total of the season.

The defense was led by defensive back AJ Bryant who recorded 8.5 tackles and league record 3 interceptions in the previous meeting with the Extreme on his way to earning UIF Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 11. AJ enters this week's game against the Extreme as the reigning UIF Defensive Player of the Week having earned the award again last week for his performance against the River City Rage.

Players from the Evansville BlueCats defense have earned the last four UIF Defensive Player of the Week awards in a row and five of the last six overall. (AJ Bryant - Week 11 & 16, Deion Holts - Week 13, Hunter Pingston - Week 14, John Winchester - Week 15)

As a team, the Evansville BlueCats defense leads the league with 24 interceptions this season and is tied for the league lead with 36 takeaways overall.

The Gus Doerner Charity football toss returns this week. Before the game and during the first half, fans can purchase footballs to be "tossed" at halftime. Every football that lands in the BlueCats barrel at halftime will win a prize! All proceeds from the charity football toss will go to the nightly charity. Saturday's charity is Habitat for Humanity.

The Harley Davidson motorcycles from ABATE of Indiana - Region 8 will be on hand and participate in the BlueCats pre-game ceremonies.

The FinHeads Booster Club will be handing out ERA First Advantage Realty/FinHeads Booster Club Rally Towels in the main concourse before the game.

Kickoff on Saturday will be at 7:05pm. The gates at Roberts Stadium will open at 6pm. As always, the Evansville BlueCats invite fans to show up early and tailgate with your fellow fans. The tailgate weather forecast for Saturday afternoon is fabulous with sunny skies and a pleasant breeze.
