New England Black Wolves News Release
UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The National Lacrosse League has announced New England Black Wolves forward Shawn Evans as the "Air Canada Wingman of the Week" award winner for Week 15 of the 2016 NLL season.
Evans recorded a combined 16 points (5+11) in New England's weekend sweep with a team-high nine points (3+6) in Friday's 14-13 home win over the Saskatchewan Rush and seven points (2+5) in Saturday's 14-10 road win over the Toronto Rock as the Black Wolves improved to 9-5 and clinched a playoff spot in the East Division.
Evans, currently second in the league with 102 points (43+59), became the first player in the league's 30-year history to record four-straight 100-plus point seasons. The 11-year NLL veteran ranks second in the league in assists (59) and third in goals (43) while his 102 loose balls are the most among all forwards and sixth-most overall. The 30-year-old has registered six or more points in 12 of his 14 games played this year including three outings with double-digit points.
From Peterborough, Ont., Evans played collegiately at Bellarmine University and was the second overall pick in the 2005 NLL Draft en route to being named to the 2006 NLL All-Rookie Team. The two-time NLL Most Valuable Player (2013 & 2015) most recently earned the MVP award after posting 130 points (47+83) last year, which set the league's single-season scoring record. The four-time NLL All-Pro (2012-2015) is on pace to break his record points total in 2016.
Air Canada is the Official Airline Partner for the NLL. Each week, an NLL player will receive the "Air Canada Wingman of the Week" award based on their performance on the turf with respect to passing prowess and playmaking abilities.
