Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque Fighting Saints are proud to announce the elevation of Evan Dixon to the associate head coach position. The 30-year-old Michigander enters his fourth season behind the bench of the Fighting Saints as he joined the team on July 1, 2019.
Dixon completed five prior seasons of coaching experience, as he first jumped behind the bench of his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for two seasons, and has spent the last three with the Fighting Saints. With Dubuque, he helped lead the team to two of the organization's best regular season finishes in 2020 and 2022.
"I am very grateful to Brad Kwong and Kalle Larsson for giving me the opportunity to continue to develop as a person and as a coach for the Dubuque Fighting Saints," Dixon said. "I have been fortunate to work with and learn from some incredible people and I look forward to the future."
"Since his first day on the job, ED has been a difference maker," said Fighting Saints GM and President of Hockey Operations Kalle Larsson. "His work ethic and team-first attitude is contagious, and the work he does behind the scenes is a major reason that makes this club one of the best in junior hockey."
Dixon has spent his time with the Fighting Saints working with the defensive side of the puck. He has also spent countless hours breaking down video to prepare the Fighting Saints over the course of three seasons in which the team has posted a 97-52-13 record.
"Evan has grown tremendously as a coach during his time here, and he is ready to take on more responsibilities within the organization," Larsson added. "He has earned this promotion by being himself. He always goes above and beyond what is expected, and we are pleased to announce that he is our new Associate Head Coach."
"I am excited for the opportunity to work with Evan. His work ethic and commitment to the Fighting Saints has been apparent since I became head coach," said head coach Kirk MacDonald. "He is more than deserving of this promotion."
Once the captain of the Pointers for his junior and senior seasons, Dixon was a decorated student-athlete in his four years at UWSP. He was a three-time WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team selection, the WIAC Max Sparger Scholar Athlete Award winner, and the Elite 90 Award winner, which is presented to the student athlete with the highest cumulative GPA competing in an NCAA championship.
Dixon captained the Pointers to an NCAA Division III hockey championship in 2016, and was on a Pointers team that made it to the national championship game three times. He then captured a second NCAA Division II hockey championship with the undefeated 2019 iteration of the Pointers, which went 29-0-2 and gave up the fewest goals against in program history (46).
Dixon double majored at Stevens Point in business administration and economics.
Following his collegiate career, Dixon played professionally for the Fayetteville FireAntz of the SPHL, where he scored 18 points in 56 games.
