NEW YORK (Monday, June 16, 2008) London-based R&B artist Estelle will perform at the 2008 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game Halftime Show, broadcast live to a national television audience on Thursday, July 24th at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2, TeleFutura and CBC. Major League Soccer's 13th annual All-Star Game features the 2008 MLS All-Star squad taking on the storied English Premier League side, West Ham United, at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Homeschool/Atlantic recording artist Estelle, who will be performing her first single "American Boy" during the Halftime Show, is fresh off the release of her second critically-acclaimed album Shine. Estelle teamed up with Kanye West and will.i.am from the Black Eyes Peas on "American Boy", a funk infused number one hit on the international charts.

"Estelle is an excellent representation of the kind of artist that is ideal for a Major League Soccer special event," said Geoff Hayes, vice president of special events for Major League Soccer. "Her chart-topping tracks in Europe, combined with her rising star status in North America, amount to an exciting entertainment buzz and incremental attention for this year's Pepsi MLS All-Star game."
Throughout Shine, Estelle combines sensual, thoughtful love songs that display her unmistakable womanliness with a collection of edgy hip hop songs littered with thought provoking lyricism. The London-based R&B singer was first recognized for her unique hip hop style, winning the "Best Female Artist" award at the UK Hip Hop Awards three years in a row before taking away the prestigious 2004 MOBO award for "Best Newcomer." Her recent collaborations with the soulful John Legend have guided her onto a new and exciting path in the R&B genre.
Major League Soccer hosts its midseason showcase match between the League's top players and the best of the world. This year MLS takes on West Ham United Football Club of the English Premier League. This will be the fifth time that the MLS All-Star Game has followed this format, adopted to ensure the most intriguing All-Star spectacle in North American professional sports. Last year, the MLS All-Stars defeated Celtic FC, 2-0, at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. on goals by New York Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel and FC Dallas midfielder Juan Toja. In 2006, the MLS All-Stars defeated Chelsea FC, 1-0, at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. In 2005, the MLS All-Stars defeated English Premier League club Fulham FC, 4-1, at Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. In 2003, the MLS All-Stars downed storied Mexican club CD Guadalajara, 3-1, at The Home Depot Center with current L.A. Galaxy forward Carlos Ruiz capturing MVP honors.
