Errors Plague Black Bears

PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears committed 6 defensive errors that cost them valuable runs and also the game as they lost to the Elmira Pioneers. Starting pitcher Brian Gouin went 6 1/3 innings allowing 6 runs, 4 earned, on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6. Reliever Jim Harrison threw 2 2/3 innings of 2 hit and 1 unearned run baseball. A defensive highlight of the evening for the Black Bears came from new first baseman Ender Gonzalez who made a cat-like grab to end the 7th inning.

At the plate the highlight of the night was centerfielder Curtis Godwin who 2 for 4 and scored both Black Bears runs. His consecutive game-hitting streak is now up to 21 games. Gonzalez also had a good night at the plate going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Scott Allen and Nelson Samboy both had doubles. Shortstop Luis Mercedes committed 2 errors, Joe Kerrigan, Brian Gouin, Scott Allen and Jerome Daniels all committed errors in the field.

The Black Bears host the Pioneers again tomorrow night at Wahconah park at 7:05.
