
Errors Cost Captains First Half Finale

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (31-38) were defeated by the Dayton Dragons (30-40) by a score of 5-3. In the ninth inning, the Captains committed three errors; which led to two Dayton runs. Ryan Wright reached on a two base throwing error by Nick Bartolone, Juan Silva laid down a bunt single and took second base on a throwing error by Cole Cook. Kyle Waldrop moved the Silva to third on a sacrifice bunt and Silva scampered home on a ball that got away from the Captains catcher Alex Lavisky. After the run scored on a wild pitch, the score was 5-3 Dayton heading to the bottom of the ninth inning.
Dayton took the early lead when Junior Arias lined the first pitch of the ballgame down the left field line and then scored on a two run homer by Joe Terry. The homerun was the second of the season by Terry and Dayton led 2-0 after one inning. Dayton added a run in the top of the fourth inning when they used three straight hits including an RBI double by Nick O'Shea and the score was 3-0 Dragons.
The Captains cut into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Alex Monsalve and Alex Lavisky hit back-to-back homers and the score was 3-2 Dragons. The homerun by Monsalve was his team leading fifth of the season and for Lavisky it was his fourth long ball of the season. Lake County tied the ballgame in the bottom of the sixth inning, Francisco Lindor was hit by a pitch to start thee inning and then was singled to third and Lindor scored on an RBi double by Alex Monsalve, and the score was deadlocked at 3-3.
RHP Stalin Gerson (4-4) took to the mound for Dayton, and did not factor in the decision. Gerson pitched six innings and allowed five hits and three runs, all earned. Gerson walked one and struck out one, he also surrendered two homeruns. James Allen (4-2) entered the ballgame for Dayton and pitched two scoreless innings while walking two. He also earned the win. Carlos Contreras pitched the ninth inning for Dayton and earned the save his seventh of the season
LHP Shawn Morimando (2-1) got the start for the Captains and was not a factor in the decision. Morimando pitched six innings scattering eight hits, three earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts and did surrendered a homerun. Felix Sterling pitched a perfect inning in relief for the Captains and then Cole Cook (2-3) entered the ballgame. Cook pitched two innings allowing one hit and two un-earned runs. Cook struck out one but was also saddled with the loss. This is the second straight game where Cook was saddled with the loss, and didn't allow an earned run.
The Captains will not be back in action until Friday June 22 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Captains will start the second half with a six game road trip and will not be back at Classic Park until Thursday June 28th at 7:00 pm vs. West Michigan.
