Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 - Erie BayHawks forward Ivan Johnson was named to the GATORADE All-NBA Development League First Team today, an honor voted on by the league's 16 head coaches. Guard Blake Ahearn received Honorable Mention honors.
Johnson (6-8, 230) has been a steady force for the BayHawks all season leading the league in scoring average at 22.6 points per game. He notched the league's second highest single-game scoring mark when he scored 46 points in a win at Maine on January 14, and was a starter on the league's mid-season Eastern Conference All-Star Team.
Johnson joins Iowa Energy guard Curtis Stinson, Bakersfield Jam guard Trey Johnson, Dakota Wizards center Chris Johnson and Texas Legends forward Joe Alexander on this year's first team.
Ahearn (6-2, 190) returned to the BayHawks on December 29 after playing the first part of the season overseas. He ranks twelfth in the League in scoring average at 16.9 points, fifth in assists at 5.8 and first in free throw shooting percentage at 96.2% (150-for-156). Ahearn had his best career game with Erie on February 13 when he scored 39 points in a win over New Mexico that included him going 18-for-18 from the free throw line.
Johnson and Ahearn combined to lead the BayHawks to a franchise record 32 wins in the regular season and the team's second playoff berth in just three years.
On Tuesday night Erie evened up their first round series with the Reno Bighorns by getting the franchise's first-ever post-season victory by a score of 114-111. The decisive third game will be played on Thursday night in Reno at 10 pm ET. The winner of that game will play the winner of tonight's Rio Grande Valley and Bakersfield game (series tied 1-1).
