RIE, PA (March 31, 2010) - Wide Receiver Eugene Baker of the Erie Storm has been named the VidSwap.com AIFA Offensive Player of the Week for his franchise record-setting performance last Saturday night on the road against the Reading Express.
Baker (6'1"-183) enjoyed the most productive game of any wide receiver in the franchise's four-year history, registering 13 receptions for 198 yards, both team records, and tying another team record with five touchdown catches. Late in the game, it appeared he had added a sixth score, but was ruled down just short of the goalline. For the season, Baker leads Erie with 25 catches for 313 yards in three games.
Following a standout collegiate career at Kent State, Baker was drafted by the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, and he enjoyed a seven-year NFL career with the Falcons and the Carolina Panthers, among others. Baker was inducted into Kent State's Varsity K Hall of Fame and graduated as the school's all-time leader in pass receptions, receiving yards, and touchdown catches. He was named a three-time all-MAC conference performer, and was selected to play in the Hula Bowl as a senior.
The Erie Storm will finish up their two-game road trip on Saturday night, April 3, with a visit to the Harrisburg Stampede. After a bye week, the Storm will return home to the Tullio Arena in Erie on Friday night, April 16, to host the Richmond Raiders, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM. Tickets are available at the Tullio Arena box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets. To stay current on all the latest information on the Erie Storm, visit them on the web at www.stormerie.com.
