Erie Explosion Earn First Win of 2015 Season

(Erie, PA)- The Erie Explosion (1-3) defeated the ASI Panthers (3-3) of Reading, PA (50-26) in an interleague game on Saturday April 25that the Erie Insurance Arena. Erie pulled away with fourteen fourth quarter points in an exciting game featuring the Explosion of the Professional Indoor Football League and the Panthers of the AIF. Erie linebacker Jon D'Angelo set the tone for the game on the Panthers first possession as he intercepted quarterback Ray Wagner and returned it for a 41 yard touchdown and a 6-0 lead that the Explosion would not relinquish. D'Angelo would finish with 2 interceptions and 4 tackles and the Explosion defense forced 6 turnovers and limited the Panthers to 227 total yards. Erie native Jayson Nickson added two interceptions and defensive back Jerome Junior added 5.5 tackles as the Explosion secondary limited the Panthers to 2 of 8 third down conversions.

Erie quarterback Mason Espinosa in his second consecutive full game finished 23-39 for 271 yards with five touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown. Erie native Maurice Williams in his second game with the Explosion finished with 10 receptions for 129 yards and 3 touchdowns. Receiver Alfonso Hoggard finished with 57 yards receiving and one touchdown and Greg Betterson added 9 receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown. Espinosa in his last two full games as a starter has completed 49-79 attempts for 602 yards and nine touchdowns.

"It was great to get the win in-front of the best fans in all of indoor football at the Erie Insurance Arena. I am happy for our players and staff that their hard work was rewarded. We are improving each day and our young players are continuing to learn our system and the game of indoor football. It is important that we use this victory and positive momentum to propel us through these next three home games. I look forward to getting back into the film room and practice field to clean-up our mistakes and get ready to take on the Nashville Venom on Sunday afternoon," commented Erie Head Coach Shawn Liotta.
