Erie Explosion News Release
(Erie, PA) - The Erie Explosion continued to bolster their roster with the addition of former Duquesne University standout receivers Bruce Hocker and Alex Roberson. Both receivers will be entering their first season of professional indoor football, but are certainly no strangers to putting up big numbers or playing in high powered pass-oriented offensive systems.
Hocker (6'4, 210) finished his Duquesne career as the Dukes all-time receptions leader with 162 receptions, 2,595 yards, and 33 touchdowns from 2004-2007. Hocker established himself as one of the most productive WR's at the NCAA FCS level over his four year career. He became the only FCS non-scholarship player selected to participate in the 2008 Hula Bowl where he caught a touchdown pass, and participated in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game following his senior campaign. A perennial all-conference performer, Hocker was only the second Duquesne player to be named a consensus All-American by the Associated Press and the American Football Coaches Association. In 2006 after leading the nation in receiving yards per game (107.0), Hocker was named to the ECAC First Team, Associated Press All-American, Don Hansen All-American, and the Sports Network All-American Team. Following his collegiate career Hocker attended camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL prior to the 2008 season.
Roberson (6'3, 210) a product of Waynesboro, GA put up prolific numbers for the Dukes as he caught 129 passes for 2,117 yards and 17 touchdowns. During his junior season in 2007 Roberson averaged 20.2 yards per reception on his way to All-MAAC honors, and led the Dukes in receptions and yards during the 2005 season on his way to first team all-conference honors. Roberson and Hocker contributed to one of the nation's most lethal passing attacks during their time together from 2004-2007. In 2011 they will look to make an impact on an Erie offense that finished first in the league in Total Offense and Passing Offense during the 2010 season. No stranger to the Duquesne program, Erie Head Coach Shawn Liotta served as the Running Backs coach during the 2003 season in which the Dukes captured the Division I-AA Mid Major National Championship.
The Erie Explosion, proud members of the Southern Indoor Football League, open training camp on March 4th 2011. For more information on the Erie Explosion and the SIFL please visit www.ErieExplosion.com
