Charleston Lowgators News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. (January 3) Carl English scored a season-high 24 points off the bench to lead the Charleston Lowgators over the Columbus Riverdragons 95-72 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The Lowgators (9-5) led from start to finish scoring the first six points of the game and never looked back. Every Charleston player played at least 20 minutes and scored at least three points.
"This was a total team effort this afternoon, Charleston coach Doug Marty said. "Everybody really contributed. The bench really gave us a much-needed lift because we have to travel and play tomorrow afternoon."
Charleston's bench provided 57 of the team's 95 points. English hit all four three-pointers he attempted and Hiram Fuller added 19 points and 12 rebounds, his second double-double in a row.
Columbus (3-11) was only 5 of 20 from the floor in the first quarter and only shot 35.5% from the field for the game.
Riverdragons coach Jeff Malone said, "They played very good defense early on and we got down early. Then we were in too deep of a hole to recover."
Erron Maxey had 13 points to pace Columbus, while Courtney James added 10 points and 11 rebounds. The two teams will battle once again in Columbus on Sunday at 4 p.m.
