Enforcers Stay Unbeaten at Home Against Dashers, Win 2-1

The Enforcers came in to Wednesday night's matchup with nothing to lose and everything to gain as they faced off with the Danville Dashers for the final time in the regular season. If the Enforcers could win in regulation they could guarantee themselves the number two seed in the playoffs and home ice advantage in the first round.

The first period started with Elmira trying to find their feet. The Dashers got the first four shots on goal, but were unable to put anything by Troy Passingham. The Enforcers got their skates under them in the middle of the period pushing the pace and getting a few quality shot on Matt Kaludis, but similarly were unable to beat the Danville netminder. The period ended with Danville leading in shots 10-7.

The Enforcers were able to turn up the pressure in the second though as a little over halfway through Mitch Atkins sent a beauty of a pass across the net mouth to Gavin Yates who put the puck into an empty net behind Kaludis to give the Enforcers a lead. However, Danville wasn't ready to submit as just 3:38 later Fred Hein came in with Nathan Campbell and put one over the shoulder of Passingham to tie it back up. With 20 minutes left to go the score was tied 1-1 as were the shots on goal at 22-22.

The third period saw more back and forth as the Enforcers cranked up their efforts, but just couldn't sneak anything by Kaludis. Power play attempts were plentiful for both teams throughout the third, but neither team was able to claim victory. With just :40 to go in the game JT Walters and Fred Hein both got into a pushing and shoving match earning them matching minors and then Brian Dunford took a penalty for high sticking :17 later, which gave the Enforcers a four on three opportunity for twenty three seconds. Nothing was accomplished and we headed into overtime.

The overtime period lasted exactly one minute as Anton Lennartsson took a pass from Gavin Yates and buried it over the shoulder over Kaludis to secure an unbeaten home record for Elmira over Danville, but did not secure the second place seed and the home ice that came along with it.

The Enforcers head for Carolina for a two game set this weekend as they will play the number one team Friday and Saturday before returning home for their own two game set against the Mentor Ice Breakers as the Enforcers close out their home portion of the regular season schedule a week from Friday and Saturday both at 7:05 pm.
