January 7, 2012 - SPHL (SPHL)
Mississippi Surge News Release
He's arguably the most famous person ever born in Mississippi. And on Sunday the Surge will pay tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.
The Surge host the Mississippi RiverKings Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Sunday would have been the 77th birthday for Presley, who was born in Tupelo, Mississippi.
"We know there are a lot of Elvis fans all over, and Elvis tribute shows do well on the Gulf Coast, so it's a perfect time for us to have an Elvis tribute game," Surge vice-president of communications Steve McCall said. "We'll be playing a lot of Elvis music, and it's appropriate we're playing the RiverKings who play their home games only about eight miles or so from Graceland."
McCall said that during the first intermission selected fans will take part in an Elvis trivia contest, with the winner getting a platinum tour of Graceland.
The Surge is also saluting participants in the Special Olympics, in pregame ceremonies on Sunday.
