June 14, 2016 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Elmira Pioneers News Release

The Red Wings would get it started off an Elmira throwing error which would score two runs in the first inning. Elmira would respond to this lead quickly, first with a booming triple by leadoff man Troy Dixon. Rob Perteet would single to the left side to bring Dixon home. A Red Wing error by third baseman, Luke Johnson would score in another run by Tyler Plantier, who is a returns to the Pioneers from last year.

After Geneva scored another run in the top of the third off of a double play, Plantier would lead off with a single up the middle. Another error by the third baseman would put Plantier back into scoring position, tying up the score at 3 on a wild pitch by Geneva pitcher Tom Sutera.

The Red Wings would bring in another run off another Elmira miscue, which would allow Geneva to retake the lead 4-3. However, the Pioneers would answer back with a leadoff triple by Joe Preziuso. Plantier would then hit an RBI single to right to tie the score at 4. As the bases were loaded with Pios again, a sacrifice fly by Jason Patnick would pad the lead. Isaiah "Zeke" Lewis would hit an RBI single to right field to bring the score to 6-4.

Blake Buckman and Troy Dixon would add an insurance run in the sixth and seventh inning respectively with an RBI single.

Geneva tried to spark a rally in the eighth with two runs scored but strong pitching by the bullpen would extinguish any chance at a comeback, leaving the final score 8-6 in favor of the Pioneers. Tyler Plantier paced the Pioneers going three for four at the plate. Zeke Lewis also added extra help at the bags going four for four on the day with two stolen bases.

Spencer Kulman receives the win with five innings pitched giving up five hits and four strikeouts. Tom Sutera takes the loss with four and 2/3 innings pitched, giving up ten hits and six runs. Zack Helsel notches the save with three straight strikeouts in the ninth inning.

The Pioneers will play against Geneva away tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Elmira returns home this Thursday to face off against the Newark Pilots.
