
Elks Win 13-10 to Sweep Sweets

The Bend Elks overcame a seven-run deficit to defeat the Walla Walla Sweets, 13-10, in a West Coast League game at Vince Genna Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Elks swept the three-game series from the Washington nine, Bend's second consecutive series sweep this week (Victoria).
Extending their winning streak to six games, the Elks are 12-10 on the season. Walla Walla falls to 6-12. Louis Cohen earned his first victory in 2014 in relief, retiring all seven batters faced, four on strikeouts. Kevin Sheets pitched a scoreless ninth for this fourth save of the season.
Zach Close's sacrifice fly plated Billy King with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.
The Elks have now scored 64 runs in their last five games after scoring 56 in their first 17 contests. Grant Newton reached base five times for the Elks, scoring three runs and driving in two. King and Brock Carpenter each had three hits and Trevor Allen contributed four RBIs.
The Elks host Kelowna for a three-game set, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at Vince Genna Stadium. Game time is 6:35 pm. Monday is Bark in the Park--fans can bring their dogs to the game.
