
Elks Take Game 2 in Yakima 12-3

The Elks beat the Yakima Valley Pippins in game 2 of the 3 game series 12-3 at Yakima County Stadium in Yakima Washington Wednesday night. The Elks got off to a fast start plating 2 runs in the first inning and single runs in the 3rd and 4th giving the Elks a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the 6th. Things got off to a rough start for the Elks in the bottom of the 6th when the lead off hitter reaches on a throwing error followed by a RBI double with two more runs to follow up, putting Yakima with in 1 run of the Elks after 6th inning, 4-3. Bend came back in the top of the 7th bringing 11 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs in the top of the 7th, giving the Elks a 11-3 lead. The Elks added an additional run in the top of the 8 giving Bend a 12-3 lead and the final score.
Elks starting pitcher Nate Hunter went 5 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and an earned run. Hunter is now 4-1 for the season and his ERA has dropped to 3.13 for the season. Alex Bush came on in relief and was unable to retire either of the two Pippins he faced, and that brought Head Coach Trey Watt to the mound and replaced Bush with Harrison Pyatt who finished the final 3 2/3 innings allowing only 1 hit to the 13 batters he faced.
The 30-8 Elks continue to lead the South Division by 10 games over the Corvallis Knights and 13 games ahead of the Medford Rogues with 16 games yet to be played in the regular season. The Elks go for the sweep against Yakima Thursday evening at Yakima County Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.
