Elks Shutout by Cowlitz 3-0
June 28, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks just couldn't muster any offense against Cowlitz starter Grahamm Weist, a freshman from Cal State Fullerton, as he pitched a complete game, 3 hit shutout Monday night in leading the Cowlitz Black Bears to a 3-0 win on Monday.
The Elks got a hit off of Weist in the top of the 1st, but then Weist would go on to retire the next 13 Elks batters until he hit Stetson Olson with a pitch to lead off the top of the 6th. The Elks would get Olson to second base in the top of the 6th and Bo Walter would get to 2nd in the top of the 7th, but would be tagged out on the classic Hidden Ball trick, ending the Elks biggest chance at scoring on the night.
Kurt Jahnke was the hard luck loser for the Elks on Monday night, as he would pitch 6 and 2/3 quality innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out four. Cowlitz got runs in the 1st and 6th off Jahnke, getting a single and double consecutively in the 1st, then a double and a single consecutively in the 6th. Both doubles came off of the bat of Spencer O Neil, who finished the night 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The teams will resume their 2 game series tomorrow in Longview, 6:35 first pitch.
