Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks trailed 4-3 heading into the top of the 9th inning, but RBI singles from Turner Gill, Grant Newton, and Keach Ballard gave the Elks a 6-4 lead, and Adam Grantham shut the door in the bottom of the 9th as the Elks finished off a 3 game sweep of the Klamath Falls Gems at Kiger Stadium on the 4th of July.
The Elks jumped out to an early lead as Cullen O'Dwyer singled home Chase Fields in the 1st and Seth Spivey's 2 run single in the second inning gave Bend (18-9) an early 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Klamath Falls responded as Cody Hough lead off the inning with a triple, and an RBI groundout from Scott Burke cut Bend's lead in half.
Klamath added 2 more runs in the bottom of the third inning as Nick Fisher singled and was brought home by Cody Hough, who drove a fastball from Eric Melbostad over the left field wall, a 2 run home run to give the Gems a 3-2 lead. The Gems added another one in the 5th inning as Cam Newell singled and was brought around by Tyson Dohl's RBI single to left, giving Klamath the 4-2 lead.
That is where the score stayed until the top of the 9th inning, as Seth Spivey singled to kick off the inning, and after Spivey stole second base, back to back strikeouts left the Elks with a runner on second base with two outs and a man on second base. That brought Turner Gill, the former Klamath Falls Gem to the plate, and he delivered against his former team with an RBI single to left field to plate Spivey, tying the game up at 4. Gill advanced to second base on the throw, and was pinch ran for by Tanner Ring. After Tyler Servais drew a walk, Grant Newton singled to plate Ring and Keach Ballard singled to plate Servais and give the Elks the 6-4 lead.
Adam Grantham pitched the final 2 innings for Bend in earning the win, surrendering only one base runner, a walk, and struck out three as Tyson Dahl bounced out to Grantham with a runner on second base to end the game.
The Bend Elks begin a 3 game series with the expansion Medford Rogues on Friday, first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Friday.
