Kelowna Falcons News Release
Longview, WA: Just one bad inning and the Kelowna Falcons are swept in Cowlitz by the Black Bears on Thursday afternoon; 7-6.
After the Bears scored a run in the bottom of the first off Falcons' starter Michael Frericks, the offense would come alive in the third with a pair of runs. Joe Robbins' single would bring in his team leading 13th and 14th RBIs to give the visitors the lead.
The Falcons would add to their lead with a three run seventh inning. After the Falcons loaded the bases, Nathan Robertson would score on a wild pitch before Preston Gray would knock in two runs with an RBI single.
However in the bottom half of the seventh the Bears erupted for six runs on five hits, highlighted by a three run homer from Derrick Salberg. The Falcons would use three pitchers in the inning and found themselves down by a pair.
The visitors would get one back in the top off the eighth when Robby Witt scored on a wild pitch.
Tyler Dunnington would be tagged with the loss, facing just five batters; he would give up three runs on one hit and walked one.
The battered Falcons will head to Victoria to open a three game weekend series with the Harbourcats. The Falcons are 0-3 in Victoria this season. Preston Gray will get the nod in Game 1.
