Bend Elks News Release

The Bend Elks and Medford Rogues were scoreless heading into the bottom of the 8th inning before the Rogues before Kevin Davidson delivered an RBI single to score Joe Chavez from second base as the Rogues scored 2 in the 8th inning to secure a 2-0 win over the Elks Friday in the first ever meeting between the two teams.

Taylor Elman for the Elks and Justin Jacome started for the Elks and Rogues respectively, and both turned out some pitching gems. for the Elks, Elman went 5 and 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on 4 hits and struck out two to keep the Elks in it through the first half of the game. Xavier Borde followed Elman and pitched out of a jam, getting Matt Taylor to strike out and Kevin Davidson to line out to centerfield to keep the game scoreless through 6.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Michael Jordan came out of the bullpen for the Elks, and ended up being the hard luck loser for Bend (19-10). Joe Chavez drew a lead off walk and after Parker Miles dropped down his 3rd sacrifice bunt, Jared Casper was intentionally walked to put men at 1st and 2nd with one out. Jordan got Matt Taylor to pop up for out number two, but Kevin Davidson followed with a bloop single into right field, and though Cullen O'Dwyer attempted to make it close at the plate, the throw would not be in time. To make matters worse for Bend, Elks catcher Tyler Servais stepped in front of the plate and fired down to second base to try and get Davidson going to second, but delivered a wild throw that brought Casper around to score for the only two runs of the ball game.

For the Gems, Jacome picked up the win as he pitched 8 shutout innings, giving up 6 hits while striking out 7, finally being pulled from the game after Seth Spivey hit a ground rule double to kick off the 9th inning. Jacome was followed by Hector Lujan, who after getting Derek Dixon to strike out, walked Tyler Servais to give the Elks runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the 9th with one out. But Lujan got Cullen O'Dwyer to go down on strikes and Turner Gill grounded out to Parker Miles at 2nd base to end the game.

The Elks and Rogues meet for the 2nd of a 3 game series on Saturday, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
