Elks lose to Kitsap 7-1
June 26, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks were beat in every aspect of the game Saturday night, falling to the Blue Jackets by a score of 7-1. The Elks managed only 1 run thanks to a Tyler Christian home run for the second consecutive night, but struggled otherwise to do anything against the Blue Jackets pitching staff.
The Blue Jackets jumped out to a lead early scoring one in the top of the first and 2 in the top of the 3rd off Elks starter Nate King, who didn't seem to have much control of his pitches tonight. King only lasted 4.1 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3 in addition to 3 costly wild pitches on the night, 2 of which were largely responsible for the 2 runs in the third.
Christian's solo home run in the bottom of the 5th was the lone bright spot for the Elks as he hammered a 2-1 pitch over the centerfield wall to cut the lead to 3-1. That would be all of the scoring until the Blue Jackets scored 2 in the 7th and 9th respectively, and the Elks simply could not answer anything that Kitsap did on the night.
The Elks will play the rubber match of the 3 game series tomorrow, first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
