Bend Elks News Release
Despite 7 quality innings from Daniel Chavez, the Bend Elks were unable to beat the Kitsap Blue Jackets on Sunday, falling by a score of 3-1.
The Elks got on the board first in the bottom of the 3rd as Justin Maffei hit a 1 out single that lined off the shin of Kitsap starter Brandon Rohde, ending his night early. He would later to come around to score after three straight walks were able to plate a run off of two Kitsap relievers, giving the Elks their only run of the ball game.
Kitsap got one back in the top of the 5th after Mitch Bluman led off the inning with a single, then would come around to score on a Sacrifice Fly from Chris Murphy. Then in the 7th Chavez got 2 quick outs and a ground ball to Derek Blankenship appeared as though it would end the inning, but Blankenship threw it wide of Chavez, who was covering 1st, and then the next 2 batters would hit a double and triple consecutively to plate 2 more runs for the Blue Jackets, resulting in the 3-1 final score.
The Elks will hit the road for a 3 game series starting tomorrow against the Cowlitz Black Bears. The Elks Split Squad will have home games Tuesday and Wednesday night against the San Francisco Seals for $2 dollar Tuesday and Free Kids Wednesday before the Elks return home for a 3 game series starting Thursday, 6/30 against the Kelowna Falcons.
