Bend Elks News Release

The Elks lost their 5 game win streak and their possession of first place on Saturday Night as they lost to the Corvallis Knights by a score of 9-4 at Vince Genna Stadium Saturday night. The San Diego Chicken was in town and provided a great night of entertainment, but the Elks couldn't quite finish it up and send the Elks fans home with a win.

The Elks grabbed the lead first in the bottom of the first as Gonzaga shortstop Steven Halcomb had a one-out single, advanced to second after Ryne Clark's fly ball resulted in an error by Knights right fielder Connor Hoffman, then came around to score on an RBI single from Grant Newton.

Corvallis tied it in the top of the third inning as Austin Hamilton led off the inning with a double, then came around to score on an RBI single from Dane Lund, who went 4-4 on the night, to tie it at 1. The Elks regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Taylor Ausbun singled and came around to score after Steven Halcomb's ground ball was misplayed by Caleb Whalen, and the Elks took the 2-1 lead.

The Knights and Elks scored in the 6th inning as in the Knights half they got an RBI single from Marc Gallegos to score Lund to tie the game at 2. The Elks responded with two runs of their own in the inning as Tommy Pluschkell led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a Taylor Ausbun sacrifice, then scored on a ground ball hit by Darian Ramage to Knights second baseman Austin Hamilton, who's throwing error in attempting to retire Ramage allowed Pluschkell to score. 3 batters later Bo Walter had an RBI single to score Steven Halcomb to give the Elks a 4-2 lead.

In the 7th inning, it all fell apart for the Elks bullpen, which had been very reliable all season long. The Knights would record 4 basehits, all singles, the Elks would commit two errors and walked two batters as the Knights pushed 6 runs across in the inning, giving them the 8-4 lead. They would push one more across in the 8th inning as Hamilton led off the inning with a triple and came around to score on a passed ball to provide the final 5 run margin.

The Elks are back at it tomorrow against the Knights tomorrow on Father's Day, first pitch at 5:05 p.m.
