Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks dropped the first game of the 3 game series with the Klamath Falls Gems Tuesday night at Kiger stadium in Klamath Falls by a score of 4-3. Gems Starting pitcher Garret Alvarez kept the Elks baffled by throwing 7 complete innings allowing only 4 hits and no runs while striking out 10. Elks starting pitcher Sam Tweedt looked inpresive pitching 4 innings giving up 6 hits for 2 earned runs.
The Gems scored first, putting 2 runs on the board in the 4th and one more in the 6th. The Elks were unable to plate a runner until the top of the 9th when Cooper Hummel and Alex Bush both hit singles to start the inning. Gonzales stepped to the plate and drove a rbi double to center before Louis Wolf blasted a 2 rbi single locking the score at 3 going into the bottom of the 9th.
In the 9th, the Gems got a lead off double followed by a walk, then a ground out to 3rd that allowed runners to reach 2nd and 3rd before closer Sam Boone threw a wild pitch allowing the runner on third to cross the plate for a walk off win.
The Elks return to action Wednesday evening for game 2 of the 3 game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM and can be streamed at bendelks.com and the Bend Elks Facebook page.
