Bend Elks News Release

A quality start out of Darin Gillies and some timely hitting out of the Elks lineup allowed the Bend Elks to dispose of the Klamath Falls Gems Saturday night at Kiger stadium by a score of 9-3.

Darin Gillies was definitely the star of the first 6 innings for the Bend Elks, as the freshman from Arizona State threw 6 quality innings for the Elks, giving up no runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 and picking up the win for Bend, who moves to 2-0 in the young season. He was nearly matched through the first 5 innings by Bryan Clough, who gave up just 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 9 Elks in his outing.

Fortunately for the Elks, Clough left the game after his 5 innings, making way for the Elks to strike against the Gems bullpen. It started with a leadoff single in the top of the 6th by Darian Ramage against reliever Aaron Moore, who then stole second and came around to score on the RBI single by Shawn O'Brien, who scored later in the inning by an RBI single by Sky Kelley, giving the Elks a 3-0 lead after 6, and the Elks would never look back. The Elks would tack on 2 more runs in the 8th and add 4 runs in the 9th inning to give the Elks their final 9 runs before Josh McAlister ran into a little trouble in the bottom of the 9th inning, surrendering 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th before getting the final out to end the game.

The Bend Elks will resume play on Tuesday as they start a 3 game series against the Wenatchee Apple Sox, first pitch at 7:05. Fans can tune in via bendelks.com and clicking the "Listen Live" link on the right hand side of the page.
