Bend Elks News Release

For arguably the first time all season, the Elks were able to put together a complete team game, scoring two runs early and rode good pitching and good defense to victory, as the Elks clinched a series victory against the Bellingham Bells, winning Game 2 of the 3 game series by a score of 2-1.

The Elks got the first run in the game in the bottom of the 4th as Tyler Christian led off the inning with a double to centerfield, back to back walks to Kyle Buchanan and Toby Demello drew back to back walks to load the bases, then Christian would come in to score on a wild pitch by Bells reliever Carson Nylund to Loren Gardner-Young, the first hitter he faced, giving the Elks a 1-0 lead. The Elks would add another one in the bottom of the 5th after Royce Bollinger got hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a groundout by Shawn O'Brien, then scored on an RBI single from Bo Walter, who continued his hot hitting again Wednesday night with a 2-4 performance at the plate.

That turned out to be enough for the Elks on the night as the pitching was largely outstanding for the Elks on the night. University of Washington freshman Jeff Brigham started and got the win for the Elks, pitching 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, walking none and striking out 5. Alex Bailey would throw 3 scoreless innings in relief, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 3, making it appear to be smooth sailing for the Elks. The Bells managed to score a run in the 9th after reliever Cameron Cuneo issued leadoff walks to Jeff Calhoon and Marshall Yanzick, Ryan Moore singled, then Andy Fortuna delievered an RBI single to make the score 2-1. However, Daniel Grazzini would enter the game and retire the only hitter he would face to record the save.

The Elks improve their record to 5-3, and return to action in an attempt to get a 3 game sweep over the Bellingham Bells, 1st pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
