Eight to Represent Fury at US-Mexico Clash

June 23, 2016 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, will have eight players take the field Monday night for the first-ever Major Arena Soccer League International Showdown, to take place at Citizens Business Bank Arena, the home of the Ontario Fury.

The first-ever challenge event will feature teams of players from the MASL representing the United States and Mexico, and members of the Fury will participate on both teams. Five Fury players are slated to suit up for the United States, while three more will play for team Mexico.

"I am excited that our players will get the chance to showcase their skills in an event of this magnitude," said Fury President Bernie Lilavois. "It shows that the talent we have developed over the last four years in Inland Empire is ready to step up into a greater role in our league."

Among the players representing the United States in the game is United States National Futsal player Nelson Santana. He will be joined by Fury forward Tino Nunez, midfielders Israel Sesay and Andy Reyes and defender Corey Maret.

On the other side of the ball will be Riverside resident Robert Tornel, as well as brothers Jose and Juan Gonzalez, who played college soccer at Cal State San Bernardino. Tornel was named an all-star by the United Premier Soccer League. The Gonzalez brothers are part of a team that will represent the United States next month in Brazil during the championships of the Neymar Jr.'s Five soccer tournament.

The International Showdown game will wrap up two days of soccer action for the players involved, as most will take part in the MASL's first-ever scouting combine, set for Sunday morning at the Scheu Family YMCA of Upland. Besides the MASL pros, interested players will get a chance to highlight their skills in front of MASL management at the combine. Tryout players will have a chance to crack the lineup for Monday's game.

"We have built a great program here in the Inland Empire, and we're glad to have the chance to show it off to the other owners in the league," Lilavois said. "We expect everyone, from tryout players to our great fans, will show the rest of the league what a great place the Inland Empire is for arena soccer."

Tickets for the game, starting at $10, are available at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office and online at AXS.com. More information can be found online at OntarioFury.com or by calling the Fury's offices at 909-457-0252.

The complete list of players scheduled to participate in the game are available at MASLsoccer.com.
