
Eight run inning lifts Sky Sox

Colorado Springs sent 12 men to the plate in the third inning Thursday, scoring eight runs on the way to an 8-2 victory over Tucson at Sky Sox Stadium.
Denny Stark earned the win throwing seven hitless innings. Stark left after throwing 107 pitches. Reliever Scott Dohmann allowed Jerry Gil to reach on an error to start the eighth inning. With one out, Andy Green doubled to left breaking up the no-hit bid and the shutout with Gil scoring from first.
Sidewinders starter Mike Gosling suffered the loss allowing the eight runs, five earned in 2.2 innings of work. Aaron Miles started the scoring in the third with a double plating Jorge Piedra who had walked. Garrett Atkins put the Sky Sox up 2-0 with a sacrifice fly that produced the second out of the inning. Colorado Springs had six more men reach with two outs to add six more runs. Stark capped the scoring with a two-run double.
Tucson did add one run in the top of the ninth off reliever Marc Kroon. Steve Neal singled to lead off the inning and scored on a triple by Luis Terrero. The Sidewinders finished with three hits after reaching double digits in hits in each of the last nine games before Thursday.
Tucson's record fell to 23-17. The Sidewinders will play game two of the four-game series Friday night at 6:05 p.m. Phil Stockman (2-2 4.15) will start for Tucson against the Sky Sox Kevin Jarvis (0-0 3.86). The game will start at 6:05 p.m. Tucson time and will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
