Eight Ex-Hamilton Bulldogs To Compete In 2008 World Championships

While the 2008 Calder Cup and Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, the International Ice Hockey Federation's annual World Championships are being held in Quebec City, Quebec and Halifax, Nova Scotia. The preliminary rosters for the tournament, which begins today, feature 149 American Hockey League graduates, including eight ex-Hamilton Bulldogs.

All 16 participating countries have at least one AHL alumnus on board, while five nations have at least one 'Dogs grad on their roster.

Canada and Slovakia lead the way with two former Hamilton Bulldogs on their roster. Forward Jason Chimera and goaltender Mathieu Garon will compete for Canada while forward Marcel Hossa and defenceman Rene Vydareny will skate for Slovakia. Four countries have one ex-'Dogs on their roster. Blueliner Alexander Zhurik will battle for Belarus, rearguard Jan Hejda will represent the Czech Republic while goaltenders Christobal Huet (France) and Tim Thomas (United States of America) are expected to start in net for their respective nations.
