Edmonton Capitals Unveil 2011 Training Camp Roster

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Capitals Director Baseball Operations, Gord Gerlach announced today the team's 2011 training camp roster. Among the players currently under contract with the club include thirteen men with either triple 'A' or Major League Baseball professional experience.

"We feel we've been able to create the kind of balance we were looking for in terms of returning players and new talent that's been brought in to fill some of the gaps." said Gerlach. " We've been able to attain a couple of very talented Canadian players including pitchers David Davidson and Steve Green. We've got an experienced group, with not too many holes to fill. From a fans perspective, it's going to be an exciting group to watch, and the team will be able to compete at a high level in the NAL."

Lou Pote, who has won back-to-back pitcher of the year awards with the Capitals, will be returning for his third season with the team. Pote has Major League experience, winning an World Series title with the Anaheim Angels in 2002, and is the only player on the current Capitals roster who has been with the team for all three seasons.

In addition to Pote, six other players on the roster boast Major League experience including returnees Enrique Cruz and Alex Prieto. New to the lineup this year with big league time on their resume includes Steve Green (Anaheim Angels), David Davidson (Pittsburgh Pirates/Florida Marlins), Bartolome Fortunato (New York Mets/Tampa Bay Devil Rays), and Todd Linden (San Francisco Giants/Florida Marlins).

Other notable Canadian talent on the roster this year includes pitcher Scott Kelley (Belleville, ON,) as well as infielder Matt Rogelstad (New Westminster, BC,) who will be making their return to the Capitals line-up this season. The Caps 3rd Annual Open House presented by 630 CHED, CISN Country, JOE FM and iNews 880 goes Saturday May 7th from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The coaching staff may add to the main training camp roster if they find a diamond in the rough at Open Tryouts.

The Capitals will be hitting the field for training camp in Arizona from May 13th to May 24th. The roster will then be finalized and the team will open their regular season on May 26th with a four game series on the road against the Calgary Vipers followed by the Caps Opening Day at TELUS Field Tuesday May 31st.

The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capitals season seats start at under $9 per game and individual game tickets are available starting at just $10 every game. The Caps Home Opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31st at TELUS Field.
