Edenton Returns Slugger from 2016

February 13, 2017 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Edenton Steamers News Release

Edenton, NC - After a strong second half of the season in 2016, the Edenton Steamers have some new faces for the 2017 campaign. This will include head coach Dustin Coffman. The Steamers set franchise standards in doubles (104) and total bases (845) last summer. The 2016 Steamers also broke Costal Plain League single-season team marks in home runs (78) and slugging average (.461). Edenton will look to get back to the playoffs after its 2015 Petitt Cup.

With the changes set for 2017, the Steamers will only bring back one member from the 2016 squad. Middle Tennessee State University redshirt-junior Aaron Aucker will join the Clams for the 2017 campaign. The Knoxville, TN native comes back after a strong season for the Teal and Black. The 6'1" 190-pound Aucker slugged 27 extra-base hits. The right-handed bat also led the CPL in doubles with 17. The 2016 CPL Postseason 2nd Team DH/Utility finished second on the club in runs created with 81. He also added nine homers and 45 RBI; the latter was good for third in the league.

Aucker projects as an everyday mid-order hitter with the Blue Raiders this spring. With Aucker's versatility he brings defensive experience at both infield corners, and could add some time in left field depending on his 2017 role and development at MTSU in the NCAA Division 1 Conference USA. On the offensive side, his combination of power and patience could make him a productive fit in several spots in the top two-thirds of the lineup for the Steamers.

He features a quiet professional approach at the plate; his offensive prowess and mental makeup also makes him a logical consideration at designated hitter. Aucker exemplifies the intangibles the Steamers look for and value, particularly in a returning leadership role, due to his competitiveness and consistency.
