Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today the addition of two infielders to its 2012 roster. Koby Kraemer and Hank LaRue will come to Edenton and help the Steamers compete for a Petitt Cup this summer.
Kraemer comes to Edenton as a redshirt-junior from Indiana State University in the NCAA Division I Missouri Valley Conference. The 5-9, 180-pound infielder bats and throws right and has played second and third base this spring for the Sycamores. Hailing from Terre Haute, Ind., Kraemer spent his 2011 summer playing for the Terre Haute Rex in the Prospect League. His final summer batting line for the Rex was a .313 average, a .398 on-base percentage and a .498 slugging percentage. He added eight doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 44 runs scored, 42 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases in 28 attempts. He finished ranked third in the Prospect League in runs scored, fourth in stolen bases, tied for fourth in home runs, and seventh in RBIs. His summer stats and final league rankings earned him the ninth-ranked prospect by Baseball America and the 29th-ranked in Perfect Game CrossChecker, respectively, in their 2011 Prospect League reports. Kraemer is a skilled and gritty player that managers love because of his toughness, versatility and ability to impact the game in multiple ways. He is a good runner that can steal bases and also draw a walk. He has surprising strength that gives him above average play power and he can hit comfortably up and down the order and be productive. He is a former wide receiver and return man for the Indiana State football team and his plus hands allow him to succeed at second, shortstop and third base, defensively.
LaRue joins the teal and black as a 6-1, 180-pound, switch-hitting sophomore from Middle Tennessee State University in the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference. The Evansville, Ind., native plays third base this spring for the Blue Raiders and has batted all over the order. LaRue spent his 2011 summer playing for the Lake Erie Monarchs in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League. He batted .306, had an on-base percentage of .376 and slugged .368 for the Monarchs while swiping 11 bases in 13 attempts. He enjoyed an outstanding freshman campaign where he played every day in the spring and summer and he is another grinder that brings a steady switch-hitting bat to the Edenton lineup this summer. When he is swinging the bat right, he has the ability to hit for a high average, control the strike zone and pepper the gaps with his doubles stroke. LaRue plays a clean and quiet third base, does an outstanding job in the bunt game and will probably be Edenton's purest defender there.
This spring for the Sycamores, Kraemer is batting .284 in 39 games, including 10 doubles. He has scored 31 runs, driven in 27 and in 152 chances has committed only one error, good for a .993 fielding percentage. ÃÂ In 40 games for the Blue Raiders, LaRue is batting .305, with nine doubles, 15 walks and a stellar .952 fielding average in over 100 chances at the hot corner.
