Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, N.C - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today the addition of three more Clams for the upcoming 2014 season. Josh Roeder (pronounced RAIDER), Jerry Stuckey and Ryan Raslowsky (all photos courtesy of respective school's SIDs) will suit up for the Steamers this summer.
A junior from the University of Nebraska in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference, Roeder is the right-handed returning closer for the Cornhuskers this spring. The 5-11, 180-pound Indian Trail, N.C., native did not play summer ball last year, but has picked up right where he left off during the 2013 spring when he was the stingy co-closer for the 'Huskers. In 21 appearances a season ago, all in relief, he went 31 innings with six saves, a 1.74 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, .209 batting average against, .270 opponent slugging average and 29 strikeouts to only seven walks.
Roeder was signed to come to Edenton last summer but academics kept him in Lincoln after he changed his major following transfer from Louisburg College (NC).Through four appearances in 2014, he has two saves and a win without allowing a run or free pass, adding four strikeouts. He employs a traditionally aggressive two-pitch attack at the back end of the bullpen with a fastball that works into the low 90s and a wipeout slider that he puts guys away with.
Stuckey comes to Edenton as a 6-1, 170-pound junior from Georgia State University in the NCAA Division I Sun Belt Conference. For the Panthers this spring, Stuckey is a right-handed versatile reliever, who calls Perry, G.A., home. Last summer he played for the Douglasville Bulls in the Sunbelt League and made eight appearances, including four starts. In 39.1 innings pitched, he logged one save, a 0.69 ERA, .81 WHIP, .165 batting average against, .202 opponent slugging and 44 strikeouts to 10 walks. Stuckey finished his summer as the league leader in ERA, seventh in strikeout ratio and was named a Sunbelt midseason all-star.
He comes with a highly evolved track record as a swingman and offers the Steamers coaching staff a valuable blend of versatility. After having already proven he can effectively start, close and pitch in long relief in high-leverage situations, Stuckey has been very impressive out the chute for the Panthers in 2014. Thus far in seven relief outings through 15 team games, he has recorded two wins, a 1.38 ERA, .92 WHIP and a .196 batting average against in 13 innings. Due to his adept command and full arsenal of pitches at his disposal, he is able to seamlessly succeed in various roles.
A Trabuco Canyon, C.A., native, Raslowsky is a junior everyday second baseman for the California State University-Northridge Matadors in the NCAA Division I Big West Conference. The 5-9, 170-pound righty played for the Palm Springs Power in the Southern California Collegiate League in 2013. In 153 at-bats over 38 starts, he compiled a slash line of .333/.434/.399, adding 49 runs, 22 walks to 15 strikeouts and swiping 37 bases in 44 attempts. Defensively, Raslowsky finished with a stellar .963 fielding average and a 4.62 range factor at second base.
Raslowsky is a manager's dream, crowd favorite and winning type, who plays the game hard and is always willing to get dirty. He is a steady, quality defender with excellent quickness for range and an offensive profile that fits well at the very top or bottom of a lineup due to the ability to combine hitting for average, drawing walks and stealing bases. So far this spring he has been hitting first or second for the Matadors and, through 15 games and 54 at-bats, has a .259 batting average, only two strikeouts and is nine of 12 on the base paths. Raslowsky has added a 4.07 range factor in 59 errorless chances at second base.
