Eddie & Evans return to mound

Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks News Release


The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks are pleased to announce the signing of two pitchers who made big impacts in the 2002 season. Right-handers Derek Eddie and Brent Evans are slated as starters for the upcoming 2003 season beginning May 8th.

Eddie, 24 years old, pitched in 12 games in 2002 nine as a starter. Eddie finished with a 6-2 record and a 3.39 earned run average. Eddie was named pitcher of the week twice in 2002 and finished in the top five in the league in shutouts, complete games, fewest walks per nine innings and fewest runners on base per nine innings.

Evans, 32 years old, pitched in 18 games in 2002 one as a starter. Evans was primarily a home only pitcher and won his first professional game on the last day of the season when in his first start Evans pitched seven innings in a 7-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on August 31st. Evans finished with a 1-0 record and a 2.72 earned run average.

Ayres back to handle the pitchers

The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks have re-signed catcher Yancy Ayres for the 2003 season. Ayres, 26 years old, caught 63 games for the Ducks in 2002. Ayres was the best defensive catcher in the Central Baseball League committing one error in 377 total chances. Ayres threw out 17 base runners during the 2002 season in witch he spent three weeks on the disabled list. Ayres also was effective in teaching the young pitching staff in 2002 and will be asked to do so again in 2003.
