Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, are pleased to announce that forward Easton Powers has signed a commitment to play college hockey for the Utica College Pioneers, one of the premier hockey programs in the Division III Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference West.

Powers was the first NAHL Draft selection in Fighting Falcons' franchise history when he was selected 31st overall in the second round of the 2011 Draft.

The South Lyon, Michigan native made an instant impact, tallying 37 points on 15 goals and 22 assists in his first NAHL season. Powers was a vital part of a core of players that led the Fighting Falcons to the 2012 Robertson Cup Tournament.

Powers did not miss a single game in the 2012-13 season, and his consistent play gave him 36 points on 12 goals and 24 assists.

In 134 games with the Fighting Falcons, including playoffs, Powers had 82 points on 29 goals and 53 assists.

"I couldn't be happier for Easton on his commitment to Utica," said Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon. "He has been a model of consistency here in Port Huron, and I think he will have no problem fitting in at the college level with a team that is poised to be a contender for years to come."

The 2012-13 season was the best in Utica College history, as the team advanced all the way to the Division III semi-finals. Five former NAHL players were part of the Pioneers' 21-6-1 season, including former Fighting Falcons forward Louis Educate, who led Utica in goals, assists and points last year.

Of the seven players who ended their junior hockey careers with the Fighting Falcons with the 2012-13 season, Powers is the sixth to sign a commitment to continue his hockey career at the collegiate level.

The Fighting Falcons return to McMorran Arena for their fourth NAHL season this fall. Season ticket packages start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
