East tops West 4-2 in MWL All-Star game

Peoria, IL - The Eastern Division All-Stars scored three times in the 2nd inning on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Western Division All-Stars at the 2005 Midwest League All-Star Game in front of 5,707 at O'Brien Field in downtown Peoria. Jereme Milons of the South Bend Silver Hawks was named MLBAM Top Player of the Game after going 2-for-2 with a double, stolen base and three RBI.
The East struck first in the top of the 2nd inning against Burlington hurler Luis Cota. Carlos Gonzales of South Bend singled to center with one out and Wilkin Ramirez of West Michigan singled in the next at-bat. Dayton's Tonys Gutierrez followed with another single to drive home Gonzales. Milons knocked home Ramirez and Gutierrez with a two-out single for a 3-0 East lead.
The lead grew to 4-0 when Milons drove home another run in the top of the 4th. West Michigan's Brent Dlugach singled with two outs and was drove home by Milons on a double against Peoria pitcher Matt Weber.
The West did not go quietly, plating a single run in the 6th inning when Clinton's Emerson Frostad hit an RBI-single to left to score Matt Tuiasosopo of Wisconsin, who led off the inning with a double. The West scored again in the 7th on an RBI single from Wisconsin's Asdrubal Cabrera to trim the deficit to 4-2.
Fort Wayne's Matt Varner got into trouble trying to save the game in the 9th for the East, as Rob Johnson of Wisconsin and Tug Hulett of Clinton singled to start the inning. Varner got Cabrera to bounce into a double play before Tuiasosopo grounded out to South Bend second baseman Alberto Gonzales to end the game.
East starting pitcher AJ Shappi of South Bend was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit with a strikeout in one inning of work. Cota took the loss for the West as he was roughed up in the 2nd inning when the East scored three times. Varner recorded the save. Jereme Milons, South Bend (OF) - Milons started center field for the East and drove in three runs on a 2-for-2 night that included an RBI double in the 4th inning. He also drove home a pair of runs with a single in the 3rd.
Notes... Ryan Harvey hit eight home runs in the first round of the home run derby, then hit just one in the finals to take the title over Emerson Frostad of Clinton...The game featured just two extra-base hits, doubles from Milons and Tuiasosopo...Every position player on both teams made an appearance...The Famous Chicken entertained the fans throughout the night and coached first base for the West in the bottom of the 2nd inning...The Chiefs begin the second half of the season Thursday in Cedar Rapids...First pitch is set for 7 PM...The pre-game show will begin at 6:45 on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
