San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski and defender Florian Jungwirth are locked into the 2020 MLS season after penning new contracts, the team announced last week.

Wondolowski tallied a team-best of 15 goals in 2019, surpassing Landon Donavan (145) in MLS career goals with 159. Wondolowski's 15 goals are the most among all American-born players throughout the league. Wondolowski's career in MLS is highlighted by multiple league records including most game-winning goals (44), road goals (74), and goals for one club (155).

Jungwirth was named Earthquakes Defensive Player of the Year for the second time since joining San Jose in 2017. Jungwirth led San Jose to a 13-12-5 record across 30 starts in 2019 and ranked second in MLS in interceptions per game (2.2).

RENO 1868 FC UPDATE

Reno 1868 FC were bowed out from the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs following a 3-1 defeat to Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday afternoon at Greater Nevada Field.

Forward Corey Hertzog tallied 1868 FC's lone goal of the match just five minutes into the Western Conference Quarterfinals, his 19th goal of the year. Sacramento Republic FC equalized in the ninth minute and tallied two more goals in the second half to seal the victory for the visiting side.

Quakes goalkeeper Matt Bersano and midfielders Kevin Partida and Eric Calvillo were featured in the Starting XI for 1868 FC. Bersano recorded 19 starts and five shutouts for Reno in 2019. Partida made 11 starts and tallied an assist. Calvillo registered eight starts.

1868 FC enjoyed their best season in franchise history, setting new club records in wins (18), points (60) and road wins (10).

ACADEMY UPDATE

The San Jose Earthquakes Boys' Academy faced EBU Bay Oaks and Marin FC Alliance in regular-season action.

The Boys collectively outscored EBU Bay Oaks and Marin FC Alliance 16-1. The U-13s (4-0) and U-14s (2-1) each earned victories over EBU Bay Oaks on Tuesday. The U-13s and U-14s faced Marin FC Alliance on Saturday and recorded shutout wins of 6-0 and 4-0, respectively.

The Boys also faced De Anza Force and LAFC in DA Cup matchups. Homegrown midfielder Gilbert Fuentes tallied the game-winning goal in the U-19s 2-0 victory over De Anza Force on Tuesday night at Avaya Stadium. The U-15s and U-17s travelled south and faced LAFC at Cal State LA. The U-15s were defeated 4-0, but the U-17s earned a 2-1 victory.

The Boys have a packed regular-season schedule for the upcoming week, in which they take on the LA Galaxy, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the Portland Timbers, Pateadores, Strikers FC and Crossfire Premier. The Boys' Academy full schedule can be accessed here.

The Girls' Academy faced California Thorns FC on Saturday. The U-14s (2-1), U-16s (2-1), U-17s (1-0) and U-19s (3-1) all recorded wins against Thorns FC. The U-15s were defeated 3-0.
