March 11, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that Comcast SportsNet will televise a minimum of 15 Earthquakes games in 2010. For the first time, all of the games will be produced in High Definition. Thirteen games will air on Comcast SportsNet California, one game will air on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and one on Comcast SportsNet Plus.
"We are excited to partner with Comcast SportsNet to present our games in High Definition for the first time in team history," said Earthquakes Executive Vice President David Alioto. "Soccer is a sport that jumps off the screen in HD and we are proud that we can deliver that experience to our loyal fans."
The Quakes broadcast schedule begins on Comcast SportsNet California with their home match against the New England Revolution on Saturday, April 17. Including national television broadcasts and the MLS Direct Kick package, the Earthquakes will have all 30 games aired on television in 2010.
"We're thrilled to be elevating our Earthquakes coverage this year on a number of levels, including providing all 15 games in High Definition for the first time and expanding our Earthquakes content on CSNCalifornia.com," said Comcast SportsNet California Vice President and General Manager Larry Eldridge.
The partnership will also include appearances by Earthquakes players and coaches on Chronicle Live and coverage on both SportsNet Reports and SportsNet Central.
The broadcast booth will see some changes this year as long-time Northern California announcer Jim Kozimor will join John Shrader for all Quakes games, while Dan Dibley will serve as the sideline reporter for home broadcasts.
Shrader, who has been the voice of the Earthquakes (Clash) either on radio or television since 1996, has been named Broadcast Manager for the Earthquakes and will move into the color analyst role. In addition to his work on the broadcasts, he will also oversee the team's radio broadcasts, write a blog on the team website and help grow the team's multimedia content on the website. He has been a broadcaster in the Bay Area for over 30 years. He currently teaches journalism and media at San Jose State University. Prior to his current duties, he spent 15 years at all-sports station KNBR 680 AM, where he hosted talk shows and covered the San Francisco 49ers. He has broadcast numerous events around the country, and spent time at two San Jose televisions stations, KNTV and KICU. For nearly a decade Shrader was the voice of San Jose State athletics. Shrader broadcast the 2002 & 2003 MLS All-Star Games and the 2002 and 2003 MLS Cup Finals on the radio.
The Emmy Award winning Kozimor, a veteran sports broadcaster for over 20 years, begins his first season as the play-by-play announcer for all Quakes broadcasts. One of the most versatile announcers in the industry, he is the host of Raiders Postgame Live on Comcast SportsNet California. His play-by-play duties for Comcast SportsNet have included college basketball and football for the Pac-10 and WCC, high school football, Major League Lacrosse and World Team Tennis. He also called a number of California Cougars games of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Kozimor was the long-time television/radio broadcaster for the Sacramento Kings and Sacramento Monarchs. Before that, he was an announcer with the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors and Detroit Pistons. His radio program, The Jim Kozimor Show, airs on KHTK 1140 AM.
A 15-year veteran of local television and radio, Dibley will be the sideline reporter for the San Jose Earthquakes on Comcast SportsNet California. He is the morning sports and traffic anchor on KNBR 680, the flagship station of the San Francisco Giants, Golden State Warriors, and San Francisco 49ers. Dibley also appears as a featured sidekick during the Gary Radnich show on KNBR 680, which is simulcast on Comcast SportsNet California and now replayed weeknights at 11 p.m. as the Radnich Remix. Additionally, he is the lead play-by-play voice for high school and college sports on Comcast Hometown Network. He spent 12 years as a physical education instructor and youth soccer coach in Marin County.
