EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A pair of first-inning home runs for Tri-City doomed the Otters early as Evansville fell Friday night, 13-7.
In the game's first at-bat, Cito Culver sent a ball over the right field wall to give the ValleyCats an immediate advantage.
Two batters later, Pavin Parks cashed in on a home run of his own, this one good for two runs.
Brett Adcock grabbed a couple of strikeouts to close out the first as Evansville trailed 3-0 after the first.
Jesus Lujano sent the first pitch of the second inning over the wall for the ValleyCats' third home run of the day, advancing the lead to 4-0.
The lead grew again in the fourth, Tri-City capitalizing on a couple of Otter errors and on a bases-loaded walk.
Evansville began their comeback attempt in the fifth with a bases-clearing triple from Miles Gordon. A couple of batters later, Steven Sensley brought in Gordon with a sacrifice fly. After five innings, Tri-City led 7-4.
Tri-City really pulled away in the seventh and eighth, scoring five more runs. Brantley Bell and Brad Zunica each had a two-run home run in that span.
The Otters managed another trio of runs in the bottom of the eighth, scoring on back-to-back fielders choice outs from Bryan Rosario and Andy Armstrong. Tyler Doanes brought the final run in on an RBI double.
Tri-City brought a final run across in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk by Denis Phipps to boost their lead to the winning margin, 13-7.
The win went to Austin Faith, his first of 2022. Adcock received the loss, giving up seven runs in 5.2 innings.
Zach Biermann had a solid day, picking up three singles. Rosario also had multiple hits in the game.
The two sides continue the series on Saturday night at Bosse Field at 6:35 p.m.
The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
