Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Knights Wednesday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. The Chiefs are now 4-3 against the Knights this year. Charlotte lost for the first time since it began its current eight-game road trip (6-1).

Syracuse scored its only runs of the night on a second-inning homer by Leonard Davis. The two-run blast over the right field wall was Davis' sixth home run of the season. All of the rightfielder's home runs with the Chiefs have come in the month of June.

Charlotte mounted a two-out rally in the third to load the bases for rightfielder Stefan Gartrell. Gartrell launched a deep fly ball to left field but Boomer Whiting made a leaping catch against the wall for the inning's final out.

The Knights got to Chiefs starter Craig Stammen for a run in the top half of the seventh. After Brent Morel singled and stole second base to start the inning, second baseman Rob Hudson hit a laser to centerfield, knocking in Charlotte's only run of the game. The Knights registered two more hits in the inning before Chiefs reliever Atahualpa Severino got Luis Rodriguez to ground out to end the frame.

After Jason Bergmann struck out the side in the eighth inning, Syracuse righty Josh Wilkie came into the game and pitched a perfect ninth for his second save. Stammen picked up his second win, tossing 6 1/3 innings for the Chiefs. He walked one and struck out three.

Charlotte's Matt Zaleski lost for the fifth time. He lasted 6 1/3 innings, surrendering a pair of runs, five hits and three walks. Zaleski finished the night with six strikeouts.

Buck Coats went 4-4 for the Knights and is now 7-9 over his last two games. Davis was the only hitter in the Chiefs lineup with more than one hit, going 2-3 and raising his season average to .266.

The Chiefs will square off with the Knights again in the series finale Thursday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. The pitching matchup will Syracuse's Erik Arnesen (2-2, 3.86) against Charlotte righty Lucas Harrell (5-6, 4.12). First pitch will be at 7:00.
