Colorado Eagles News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 2-1, doing something they hadn't done all season, and something else most teams haven't done all season. The victory was Colorado's first against Idaho in the teams' eight-game season series, and just the Steelheads' 5th regulation loss at home through 31 games. Adam Brown stopped 25 of 26 shots in the win, as Colorado out-shot Idaho, 41-26.
The teams with the top two power plays in the ECHL put them to use in a penalty filled first frame in which eight separate minors were called by referee Tom Chmielewki.
Already on their second power play less than four minutes into the contest, Colorado's top-ranked power play got the game's first goal when Steve Haddon swept a shot from the high slot past Tyler Beskorowany. But nine and a half minutes in, Idaho's second-ranked power play countered on their second man advantage opportunity of the night when Tyler Gron put home a rebound from the left post.
The second period saw five more penalties called, and another power-play goal tallied. Moments after being denied on the doorstep, Collin Bowman wrangled the puck following a faceoff and scored on a shot from the point to put the Eagles up, 2-1, at 10:26 of the frame. The Eagles out-shot the Steelheads, 17-9, in the second stanza, but Brown stopped all nine shots, his best coming just a couple minutes in when he turned away David de Kastrozza on a shorthanded breakaway.
The Eagles withstood a furious Steelheads push in the final frame to hold onto the victory, gaining a split in the two-game set between the teams next to each other in the Mountain Division standings. The win evened the Eagles record at 2-2-0 on their busiest road trip of the season, a seven-game stretch that concludes with three games in less than three days this weekend in Utah.
