Eagles Hit the Road to Play Long Time Rivals Charleston Battery

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles will travel to Charleston SC this Saturday July 12th to face off against long time rivals Charleston Battery.

In the Eagles last match they faced off against the Dayton Dutch Lions where they fell 3-1 and fell to 5-9-2 in the season. Dayton's top goal scorer Aaron Schoenfeld tallied a hat trick in the nights match bringing him up to 12 goals in the 2014 season, which puts him for first place in the league for goal scorers. The Eagles sole goal of the match came from Johnny Leathers in the 59th minute when there were a number of Eagles in front of the Dayton goal and Leathers was able to chip it in past Dayton goalkeeper Matt Williams. The goal marked Leathers first of the season in his seven matches with the Eagles.

In Charleston's last match they faced off against the Harrisburg City Islanders where they fell 4-1 on the road. The goal for the Battery came from Jarad van Schaik who currently has two goals and one assist in the 2014 season so far tying him for second place on the Battery in points leaders with five.

The two teams last met at Queens Sports Complex last month when the Eagles took a huge 3-1 victory over they Battery, breaking a six game USL PRO losing streak. The Eagles three goals came from Juan Guzman, Fred Sekyere and Jorge Herrera. The goal for the Battery came from Maikel Chang.

The Eagles currently lead the Battery by one point in USL PRO league standings with 17 points. The Eagles sit in 10th place while the Battery holds 11th place.
