Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Sacramento Republic FC (9-5-2) travel to Richmond, Va. to take on the Richmond Kickers (8-1-8) on Saturday, July 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. PST at City Stadium.
The match will be the first and only matchup between Republic FC and the Kickers this season. The match will have big playoff implications as Republic FC sit just three points behind the Kickers in the USL PRO standings. The winner of the match will take over sole possession of the second seed of the USL PRO.
Republic FC enters the match winning three of their last four USL PRO matches including a 2-1 victory over Orange County Blues FC in their last match on July 7. Republic FC midfielder Octavio Guzman scored his first professional game-winning goal three minutes into stoppage time to extend Republic FC's Bonney Field USL PRO win-streak to three.
Midfielder Rodrigo Lopez scored the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute. Lopez now has five goals and five assists in USL PRO play this season. His five assists leads Republic FC and is tied for second overall in the USL PRO.
Lopez picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 86th minute against Orange County on July 7. According to USL PRO rules, Lopez will have to serve a one-match suspension due to his five yellow cards. Lopez is eligible to play in Saturday's match against Richmond but will serve the one-match suspension on Monday, July 14 against the Charlotte Eagles.
Richmond enters the match unbeaten in their last 14 matches. The Kickers' 34 goals are second only to LA Galaxy II's 36 in USL PRO play this season. Richmond also holds the league's second highest goal differential (18).
The Kickers are led by forward Matthew Delicate who has scored ten goals on the season, third most in the USL PRO. Delicate is joined by midfielders George Davis, who has scored seven goals this year, and Kyle Porter, who has scored four goals.
Republic FC will be hosting viewing parties of the match at de Vere's Irish Pub located at 1521 L Street in Sacramento and at Field House American Sports Pub located at 1310 Fulton Ave in Sacramento.
